Job Summary

Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated person to join the Mechanical Systems team and function as a Sub-Discipline Lead specific to Municipal Water projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

1. Lead a design team comprised of seven Mechanical Systems engineers on wastewater and water treatment facilities for a variety of Municipal Water clients in US.
2. Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the India and US.
3. Plan, coordinate, and execute mechanical engineering activities for Municipal wastewater and water treatment projects throughout the project lifecycle.
4. Integrate with a well-established Mechanical Systems team comprised of specialized staff with strong experience in variety of mechanical equipment and systems.
5. Work for an employee-owned firm.

Candidates are expected to have knowledge and experience related to the outline design, detailed design, and related engineering tasks associated with mechanical systems specific to municipal wastewater and water treatment. Such systems include, but are not limited to, pumping systems, aeration systems; compressed air systems; piping and valve design, standby power generation, and other mechanical systems supporting water and wastewater treatment processes. Candidates shall have experience of working with different Municipal Water Clients and be able to adapt to different delivery project methods.

Key Responsibilities

1. Lead a team of mechanical engineers on system design for moderately complex Municipal wastewater and water projects. Responsible for the team’s execution relative to scope, schedule, and budget.
2. Oversee the development of engineering work products including piping and instrumentation diagram drawings, mechanical arrangement drawings, and specification for mechanical equipment, piping, & valves.
3. Provide technical guidance on engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters for the purpose of sizing equipment.
4. Follow company and industry design practices in development of designs.
5. Review manufacturer's or contractor's submittals, data, reports, etc., for conformance with the contract design documents. 
6. Lead and mentor mechanical engineers by assigning tasks, teaching skills and reviewing progress.
7. Act as the Responsible Engineer for various mechanical systems or equipment.
8. Coordinate with other design disciplines and project stakeholders.
9. Understand the Municipal Water Industry and be able to adapt to different delivery methods.
10. Ensure compliance with company quality management procedures and project-specific

Management Responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Minimum 16+ years of total professional experience.
Industry Experience: Strong experience in municipal water and wastewater projects, preferably covering WTP, WWTP, ETP, and/or STP facilities.
Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in mechanical/process design, rather than primarily design review or engineering management.
Design Exposure: Experience developing or performing detailed engineering calculations, equipment sizing/selection, specifications, datasheets, layouts, and technical evaluations for water/wastewater mechanical systems.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

4. Preferred design experience specific to Mechanical systems for wastewater and water projects. Candidate may not have exposure to all but open learning and understanding quickly would be preferred:

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from either a recognized accredited program in their home country or the country in which the professional is practicing. Minimum of 18 years related work experience.
