Merck seeks a Data Protection (Backup and Recovery) Engineer for its Hyderabad technology center. The role involves designing and implementing advanced backup and recovery solutions across cloud platforms, with a focus on automation, self-service capabilities, and data integrity. This is a hybrid position supporting the company's digital transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain backup and recovery solutions using Cohesity, AWS Backup, Azure Backup, and Commvault
• Develop automated backup and recovery processes using Python, Ansible, PowerShell, and GitHub Actions to reduce manual work
• Build self-service features and API-based capabilities enabling customers to manage their own backup and recovery tasks
• Lead optimization of backup processes, troubleshoot complex operational issues, and investigate unknown root causes with corrective actions
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and product managers on data protection strategies, conduct regular testing, and maintain comprehensive documentation

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
• 5–7 years of backup and recovery engineering experience at senior level
• Proficiency with backup tools: Cohesity, AWS Backup, Azure Backup, PPDM, RMAN, BRTools
• Advanced scripting in Python, PowerShell, and API-based automation
• Hands-on experience with Ansible Tower, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD pipelines
• Demonstrated expertise with Agile frameworks, Jira, and Confluence
• Knowledge of scalable backup storage architectures and disaster recovery planning
