Job Description: Senior Data Scientist

Company: Kefilo
Position: Senior Data Scientist
Engagement Type: Equity-Based Founding Team Role
Location: Remote/Hybrid
Commitment: Approximately 20–25 hours per week

About Kefilo

Kefilo is a NutritionTech and personalized wellness transformation company focused on functional nutrition, preventive wellness, gut health, and sustainable lifestyle improvement. We integrate nutrition, fitness, mental wellness, technology, and personalized 90-day transformation programs to help individuals achieve measurable health outcomes.

Our long-term vision is to build a Nutrition Intelligence Engine and Dark Factory for Food —a technology-driven ecosystem that combines nutrition science, data analytics, intelligent food manufacturing, and personalization to create scalable wellness solutions.

We are looking for a Senior Data Scientist who can help transform nutrition, food, customer, and operational data into actionable intelligence, predictive models, and data-driven products.

Key Roles & Responsibilities1. Nutrition Intelligence & Data Modelling

Design data models that connect nutritional composition, ingredients, dietary patterns, individual preferences, lifestyle factors, and wellness objectives.
Translate nutrition research and domain-expert knowledge into structured datasets, measurable parameters, and analytical frameworks.
Collaborate with nutritionists and food scientists to develop evidence-based, personalised nutrition recommendations.

2. Machine Learning & Predictive Analytics

Develop and evaluate statistical models and machine learning algorithms for customer segmentation, behavioural patterns, program adherence, retention, and wellness outcomes.
Explore predictive modelling for dietary preferences, customer progress, and personalised program optimisation.
Validate model performance, reliability, bias, and limitations before deployment.

3. Nutrition Intelligence Engine Development

Help design the data science architecture underpinning Kefilo’s Nutrition Intelligence Engine.
Combine structured nutrition data, food composition, customer assessments, and program outcomes to improve personalisation.
Work with product and engineering teams to integrate analytical models and recommendation logic into digital products.

4. Food Intelligence & Dark Factory R&D

Analyse ingredient properties, nutritional composition, recipes, food formulations, portion sizes, and production parameters.
Develop analytical methods to support recipe standardisation, nutritional consistency, product development, and manufacturing efficiency.
Identify opportunities to use data science for demand forecasting, production planning, waste reduction, and quality improvement.

5. Data Engineering & Analytics Infrastructure

Define data requirements, data schemas, collection protocols, validation rules, and preprocessing pipelines.
Build reproducible analytical workflows using Python, SQL, and appropriate data science libraries.
Establish data-quality checks, documentation, version control, and monitoring practices in collaboration with engineering teams.

6. Business Intelligence & Growth Analytics

Develop dashboards and analytical reports covering customer acquisition, retention, program completion, product performance, revenue, and unit economics.
Analyse customer behaviour and conversion funnels to identify opportunities for improving product-market fit and business growth.
Support management with data-backed recommendations on pricing, customer segmentation, product strategy, and operational efficiency.

7. Research, Experimentation & Validation

Design experiments, A/B tests, and statistical evaluations to assess product features, recommendations, and customer engagement initiatives.
Establish appropriate success metrics and measurement frameworks for nutrition and business outcomes.
Document findings, communicate uncertainty, and ensure analytical conclusions are supported by reliable evidence.

8. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Technical Leadership

Work closely with nutritionists, food scientists, product managers, software engineers, and business operations teams.
Translate business and scientific problems into practical analytical solutions and clearly communicate findings to non-technical stakeholders.
Help establish data science standards, mentor team members where appropriate, and contribute to Kefilo’s long-term R&D roadmap.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related quantitative discipline.
Significant hands-on experience in data science, statistical modelling, machine learning, or applied analytics.
Strong proficiency in Python, SQL, data manipulation, exploratory data analysis, and statistical methods.
Experience developing, evaluating, and validating machine learning models and analytical pipelines.
Ability to work with complex datasets, identify data-quality issues, and communicate findings through clear visualisations and reports.
Understanding of experimental design, model evaluation, reproducibility, and responsible data handling.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in an early-stage, cross-functional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in NutritionTech, FoodTech, HealthTech, digital health, functional foods, personalised nutrition, or preventive wellness.
Knowledge of nutritional databases, food composition data, ingredient analysis, recipe optimisation, or food manufacturing analytics.
Experience with recommendation systems, time-series analysis, customer behaviour modelling, or predictive analytics.
Familiarity with cloud data infrastructure, APIs, model deployment, and production machine learning workflows.
Experience collaborating with domain experts to translate scientific knowledge into deployable data products.
Research publications, relevant projects, or demonstrated experience building data-driven products will be an advantage.

Engagement & Equity Structure

This is an equity-based founding team position ; no fixed salary is available at the current stage.
Expected commitment is approximately 20–25 hours per week.
Equity participation will be discussed based on expertise, responsibilities, contribution, and long-term commitment.
A proposed five-year vesting structure will align equity participation with sustained contribution and company growth.
Fixed compensation may be introduced after funding and revenue stabilisation. This could take 6–8 months or potentially a year, depending on business progress.

What You Will Build at Kefilo

This role offers the opportunity to help build the data science foundation of a NutritionTech company—not simply generate reports or train isolated models. You will contribute to a system that connects nutrition science, food intelligence, customer behaviour, personalised recommendations, and intelligent food manufacturing.

We are looking for someone who combines strong analytical fundamentals with practical execution, scientific discipline, and the motivation to build an early-stage product into a scalable business.
