Role Overview

The Review-Chain Engine Engineer will build and maintain a configurable, reusable workflow and approval engine that supports multi-step reviews for procurement journeys. The engine will manage review stages, role-based assignments, delegation, escalations, service-level agreements (SLAs), and audit trails.

The candidate must have strong OutSystems development experience, hands-on workflow/state-machine knowledge, and at least 1 year of AI-assisted delivery experience using AI tools to generate workflow logic and tests.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop configurable, multi-step review and approval workflows.

• Implement review-chain rules based on procurement method, thresholds, roles, and approval requirements.

• Build delegation, escalation, SLA timers, and prior/post-review processes.

• Maintain complete audit trails and reporting hooks.

• Develop reusable APIs for integration with other journey teams.

• Use OutSystems BPT, Workflow Builder, timers, and rules configuration.

• Generate workflow logic and automated tests using AI tools, with human review before pull requests.

• Test state transitions, edge cases, concurrency, audit completeness, and performance at scale.

Mandatory Skills & Experience

• 6+ years of overall experience, including 4+ years of OutSystems experience.

• Strong hands-on OutSystems development experience in production.

• Experience building workflow engines, approval systems, or multi-step business processes.

• Knowledge of state machines, workflow states, transitions, rules, and exception handling.

• Experience implementing role-based approvals, delegation, escalation, and SLA management.

• Experience with OutSystems BPT, Workflow Builder, or equivalent workflow capabilities.

• Hands-on AI-assisted delivery for at least 1 year.

• Experience using AI tools to generate workflow logic and tests, explore edge cases, and validate state transitions.

• Ability to review AI-generated code and tests before submitting a pull request.

• Understanding of audit trails, automated testing, concurrency, and performance validation.

Preferred Skills

• Procurement approval workflows, especially prior and post review chains.

• Experience with configurable approval rules based on methods, financial thresholds, or business conditions.

• OutSystems Mentor.

• Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or other approved AI coding tools.

• Experience building reusable APIs and platform components for multiple application teams.
