About the job

Key Responsibilities:

1. Understand industrial processes using plant data, literature, drawings, operating parameters, and discussions with customers
2. Identify the governing physics, chemistry, and engineering phenomena behind a process or problem
3. Develop first-principles and semi-empirical models using mass balance, energy balance, thermodynamics, kinetics, heat transfer, mass transfer, fluid mechanics, and reaction engineering as applicable
4. Develop and run numerical simulations, sensitivity studies, and engineering calculations
5. Utilize tools such as Python, MATLAB, ANSYS, COMSOL, OpenFOAM, or equivalent depending on project requirements
6. Develop process optimization models and identify improved operating windows/set-points
7. Integrate physics models with plant/historical data to develop hybrid and data-assisted models
8. Utilize AI/LLMs extensively for literature research, scientific coding, model development, debugging, data analysis, and accelerated engineering workflows
9. Critically validate AI-generated equations, code, assumptions, and results against engineering fundamentals and physical reality
10. Support the development of Digital Twins, engineering calculators, predictive models, and decision-support systems
11. Analyze plant/process problems related to quality, productivity, yield, energy, defects, process stability, and performance
12. Participate in plant visits, data collection, technical discussions, and model validation
13. Prepare technical reports, presentations, model documentation, and customer deliverables
14. Collaborate across disciplines rather than remaining restricted to the candidate's academic specialization

Other requirements

1. Strong engineering fundamentals and problem-solving ability are more important than knowledge of any single software package

2. The candidate should be able to take an unfamiliar problem and systematically move through: Problem - physics - literature/data - mathematical model - simulation - validation - optimization - engineering recommendation/digital twin

3. Preferred skills: engineering mathematics, numerical methods, Python, thermodynamics, transport phenomena, process modelling, simulation, data analysis and scientific computing

4. Experience with AI/LLM-assisted engineering, CFD/FEM, optimization, machine learning, PINNs or Digital Twins is advantageous but not mandatory
