About the job

Mechanical design
Own mechanical design in SolidWorks / Fusion 360: structural frames (aluminium extrusions, steel joints), linear axes, rotary joints, mobile base chassis, and end-effector interfaces
Perform and document FEA (static, modal, fatigue) for all load-bearing components under worst-case dynamic loading
Apply design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA): tolerance stack-up analysis (GD&T per ASME Y14.5), selection of fits (H7/g6, H8/f7), and production-ready manufacturing drawings
Actuation and mobile base
4. Select BLDC hub motors for mobile bases (wheel torque, rated speed, encoder resolution); work on differential drive kinematics, slip compensation, and odometry calibration
5. Design mechanical brakes for vertical-axis hold (spring-applied, electrically released): brake torque sizing against gravity load, cycle life, and fail-safe validation
Electronics hardware
6. Design PCBs for power distribution (battery bus and regulated rails), EtherCAT coupler breakout, sensor interfacing (IMU, encoder buffering, I2C/SPI mux), and end-effector I/O
7. Carry out schematic capture and PCB layout in KiCad or Altium Designer: DRC, impedance-controlled differential traces (EtherCAT, USB 3.0), copper pour strategy, and EMI mitigation (ground planes, ferrites, TVS arrays)
8. Design battery systems: LiFePO4 cell selection, BMS specification (cell balancing, SoC/SoH estimation, over-current/over-temperature protection, CAN communication), and charging circuits
9. Design wiring harnesses: wire gauge sizing (I R derating, IPC-2221), connector selection, loom routing to avoid EMI coupling with servo drive cables, and full wiring schedule documentation
10. Apply EMC/EMI best practices: line filters, common-mode chokes, shielding for servo drive switching, and ESD protection on all I/O lines
Prototype build and documentation
11. Lead prototype build cycles: BOM finalisation, vendor qualification (Indian and international suppliers), procurement timelines, and assembly sequencing
12. Produce and maintain engineering drawing sets (title block, revision control), URDF/Xacro robot description files, a costed BOM, assembly instructions with torque specs, and IPC/ASME-compliant wiring schedules
