About the job

We're looking for a PHP & MySQL Developer with ideally 1-2 years of professional experience to help build, improve, and maintain web applications.

You'll work primarily on backend functionality and databases, with some frontend integration. We're looking for someone who understands the fundamentals, can work through technical problems, and takes ownership of the features they build.

What you'll be working on:

1. Develop and maintain web applications using PHP and MySQL.
2. Build backend functionality for forms, user accounts, business workflows, and data management.
3. Design and maintain database tables, write SQL queries, and improve query performance.
4. Develop and integrate REST APIs and third-party services.
5. Connect backend functionality with frontend pages using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
6. Identify and fix bugs, troubleshoot application issues, and improve existing functionality.
7. Follow secure development practices, including input validation, prepared statements, and appropriate access controls.
8. Use Git to manage code changes and collaborate with the team.
9. Work with the team to understand requirements, test changes, and deliver working features.

What we're looking for:

1. Ideally 1-2 years of professional experience developing applications with PHP and MySQL.
2. A good understanding of core PHP and object-oriented programming.
3. Practical knowledge of MySQL, including joins, table relationships, indexes, and CRUD operations.
4. Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
5. Familiarity with REST APIs, and JSON.
6. Experience using Git for version control.
7. The ability to debug problems methodically and explain your approach.
8. Clear communication, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Good to have:

1. Experience with Laravel, CodeIgniter, or another PHP framework.
2. Familiarity with Linux, web hosting, or application deployment.
3. Experience maintaining a live application used by customers.
