Intermediate Backend Engineer, Cells Infrastructur in Bangalore, भारत

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the Go-based Cells control plane backed by Cloud Spanner.
• Extend the TypeScript routing layer on Cloudflare Workers to direct requests to the correct cell.
• Modify the GitLab Rails application to support globally unique resources, organization context, and cell-local data consistency.
• Design APIs and data models with correctness, idempotency, backward compatibility, transactions, and safe rollouts in mind.
• Write unit, integration, and end-to-end tests and improve service reliability.
• Instrument services with OpenTelemetry, help define SLOs, and participate in on-call and incident response.
• Collaborate with product teams on cell-compatible features and review changes for Cells correctness.
• Write design documents, architecture decision records, and documentation, and participate in code review.

Requirements

• Professional experience building and running backend services in production, including monitoring, debugging, and incident response.
• Proficiency in Go or strong experience in another backend language with willingness to use Go daily.
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and TypeScript, or willingness to become productive in both.
• Experience designing APIs with gRPC or REST and working with relational or distributed databases, including schema design, transactions, and migrations.
• Strong understanding of distributed-systems concepts including consistency, idempotency, concurrency, retries, and failure handling.
• Knowledge of engineering practices including automated testing, code review, feature flags, and observable, documented code.
• Ability to work effectively in distributed, all-remote teams using asynchronous, written-first communication.
• Experience with Cloud Spanner, Cloudflare Workers, Kubernetes, multi-tenant or sharded architectures, or GitLab is preferred but not required.
