Director - Principal Data Engineering Lead in Chennai, भारत

AstraZeneca seeks a Director-level Principal Data Engineering Lead to establish enterprise data and AI strategy for drug development in Chennai. The role involves building scalable, production-grade systems and autonomous frameworks that embed intelligence into the digital backbone of scientific discovery and late-stage development.

Responsibilities

• Define long-term Data and AI strategy for drug development including platform investments, capability roadmaps, and technology choices
• Partner with AI science teams to design reusable agentic patterns, GenAI components, and scalable solutions for enterprise workflows
• Lead multi-functional engineering teams delivering end-to-end solutions from prototype through robust, compliant production systems
• Define engineering standards, governance frameworks, and design patterns covering data models, APIs, security, deployment, and monitoring
• Establish and operate AI/ML governance controls, GenAI production controls, and comprehensive evaluation frameworks for reliability and security

Requirements

• Track record leading end-to-end AI-native product delivery in controlled or enterprise environments
• Demonstrated ability translating GenAI and agent-based research into scalable industrial solutions
• Deep knowledge of modern cloud and data architecture patterns including microservices and serverless
• Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, SQL/NoSQL databases, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code
• Proficiency in Python and secure software engineering practices
• Experience mentoring engineers and leading high-performing technical teams
• Ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape technology strategy across business functions
