Mechanical Engineer – R&D | Low Voltage Switchboard
Job Location: Thane
Job Purpose / Scope
Responsible for the design, development, testing and certification of Low Voltage (LV) Switchboards, covering mechanical and electro-mechanical aspects.
The role involves concept development, detailed engineering, preparation of manufacturing documentation, technical support to license partners, execution of type-tests and certification, and coordination with cross-functional teams, vendors and testing agencies.
The position requires hands-on experience in 3D/2D mechanical design, sheet-metal design and electro-mechanical product development.
2. Educational Qualification
Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
Relevant experience in LV switchboard / electrical panel design will be an added advantage.
3. Experience & Technical Skills
A) Mandatory:
Experience in electro-mechanical design of Low Voltage Switchboards / electrical panels.
Knowledge/experience of type-testing and certification of LV switchboards.
Knowledge of IEC/IS 61439-1 & 61439-2 and IEC/TR 61641.
Overall, 4–5 years of experience in sheet-metal component and assembly design.
Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience with 3D mechanical CAD software; SolidWorks preferred.
Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience with AutoCAD.
Familiarity with engineering documentation and design release processes.
Good working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.
B) Preferred / Added Advantage
Experience with Product Data Management (PDM) / Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
Familiarity with applicable IEC / IS / DIN standards.
Experience in working with ISO/QMS systems and engineering documentation.
Exposure to manufacturing processes related to sheet-metal fabrication and electrical panel assembly.
4. Key Roles & Responsibilities
Understand engineering requirements and develop mechanical and electro-mechanical designs for LV switchboards.
Create and maintain 3D models, 2D drawings, assemblies and manufacturing documentation using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
Prepare and maintain BOMs, product data and design documentation.
Support license partners with project-specific layouts, customized/non-standard designs and technical issues.
Support type-testing, design verification and certification activities as per applicable standards.
Coordinate with manufacturing, quality, procurement, vendors, testing agencies and other cross-functional teams to ensure timely project execution.
Identify, analyse and resolve technical/design issues, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
Maintain and update drawing databases, product records and design releases.
Contribute to design standardization, cost optimization and continuous product improvement.
Ensure compliance with applicable IEC/IS standards, QMS and EHS requirements.
Collaborate closely with the Configurator team to develop, validate and maintain configuration logic, ensuring accurate and technically compliant product configurations aligned with approved designs.
The role is not limited to modelling/drafting; it involves end-to-end engineering—from understanding requirements and developing designs to manufacturing support, testing/certification and resolution of technical issues.
