About the Client
Our client is a long-established, international manufacturer company oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, power, district energy and wider industrial markets. With manufacturing operations across several continents, the business combines project-specific engineering with ongoing product development – and is now strengthening its global engineering function with a dedicated pipe-supports specialist.
The Role
You will be responsible for the design, engineering analysis, detailing and development of standard and engineered piping support systems for industrial applications – delivering safe, compliant, manufacturable and cost-effective solutions based on piping layouts, stress-analysis loads and movements, project specifications and international standards. The role spans both project-specific support engineering and product development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design standard and special piping supports: pipe shoes, saddles, cradles, clamps, guides, line stops, anchors, sliding, insulated and spring supports, and structural support assemblies.
- Review piping isometrics, GA drawings, support schedules, stress-analysis loads, displacements, design temperatures and insulation requirements.
- Develop support concepts for vertical, longitudinal, lateral, uplift, friction, thermal, sustained, occasional and test loads.
- Perform engineering calculations – strength and stability, plate bending, member sizing, weld and bolt calculations, bearing and contact stresses, base plates and stiffeners, sliding and overturning, deflection and buckling, and load capacity.
- Perform or coordinate FEA for complex or non-standard configurations.
- Prepare and review 2D drawings, 3D models, fabrication and assembly drawings, BOMs and technical documentation.
- Ensure compliance with MSS SP-58, ASME B31.1/B31.3, ASTM, AWS, AISC and other applicable standards.
- Select materials, components, coatings, sliding and load-bearing insulation materials, and fabrication methods, designing for manufacturability.
- Coordinate with Project Engineering, Stress, Manufacturing, Procurement, Quality, Estimation and customers; respond to technical queries, deviations and change requests.
- Support prototyping, qualification and load testing of new or modified products.
- Develop standard designs, calculation methods and templates; review others' work and mentor junior engineers.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Strong fundamentals in engineering mechanics, strength of materials, machine design and structural behaviour.
- Knowledge of piping support design and fabrication; ability to interpret piping drawings and stress-analysis results.
- Working knowledge of materials, welding, bolted joints and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Excel; experience with Inventor, SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD; ANSYS or other FEA software.
- Familiarity with CAESAR II or AutoPIPE outputs is desirable.
- Background with a specialist pipe-support manufacturer, EPC, or oil & gas, LNG, petrochemical, power or district energy sectors is strongly preferred. Exposure to pre-insulated, cryogenic, high-temperature or spring supports, or new-product development, is a distinct advantage.
