About the Opportunity
- Dodo Payments helps digital businesses and SaaS companies sell globally. As customers’ sales grow across countries and US states, indirect tax obligations increase. This role will help build and run the indirect tax & compliance function from the ground up.
- You will track sales and tax exposure, determine registration needs with the Head of Finance, assess permanent establishment (PE) risk, manage monthly sales tax/VAT/GST reporting and filing, and build a network of external advisors and registration agents.
- This is a high-ownership role: you will help set up the processes, controls, and tools the function runs on.

Role & Responsibilities
- Get sales tax/VAT/GST registrations done where needed globally, directly or through external agents, and maintain a register of tax IDs and filing deadlines.
- Prepare an initial view on whether a permanent establishment (PE) is needed in a country and validate it with external advisors.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly sales tax/VAT/GST reports, reconcile them to the books, and ensure returns are filed and paid on time.
- Identify, compare, and manage vendors and advisors who can assist with registrations and filings.
- Track sales tax/VAT/GST changes (rates, thresholds, rules) in registered countries and states, and update setup and processes accordingly.
- Research the sales tax treatment of new product categories before supporting them and share guidance with the team.
- Answer sales tax queries from merchants and customers, collaborating with the CX team when needed.
- Build simple trackers and checklists to make the process repeatable as the company scales.

Skills & Qualifications

Must-Have
- 2–5 years of experience in indirect tax, with hands-on work on VAT/GST and/or US sales & use tax compliance.
- Hands-on experience with tax registrations and filing recurring VAT/GST or sales tax returns, ideally for more than one country.
- Good understanding of, or strong willingness to quickly learn, US economic nexus (post-Wayfair), EU OSS/IOSS, UK VAT, and digital services tax rules for non-resident suppliers.
- Basic understanding of permanent establishment (PE) concepts and tax treaties.
- Strong Excel and data skills: comfortable building jurisdiction-level tax reports from large transaction datasets and reconciling them to the books.
- Experience coordinating with external advisors, CA firms, or compliance vendors.

Preferred
- Experience in a CA firm’s indirect tax / global VAT team, or in-house at a SaaS, fintech, payments, or Merchant of Record company.
- Familiarity with Global Tax, registration, and other corporate tax compliances.
- Exposure to tax notices, audits, or authority queries.
